Pastor's Forum Wounds You Cannot See PDF Print E-mail

September 16th (Friday) @ 8:30AM at the Concord Vet Center 1333 Willow Pass Road there is going to be a special forum for pastors. This is going to be a time when chaplains in the VA are going to give pastors some inside tips how to attend to their veterans in the congregations. I know some pastors sometimes are a little uncomfortable in dealing with some of our returning combat vets and this is a safe and informative session as to how to be a better blessing to those who have come back with the "wounds you cannot see".
Phil Kohlmeyer is a Lutheran pastor in Martinez and is a mutual friend of Terry Reilly (Creekside).
We would really like to see as many pastors there as possible so they can get the info as to how to help a "difficult to help" population.

Pastor BK Woodson is hosting a series of "respectful dialogues" to help people have conversation around controversial socio-political issues. As we move closer to the next election, I believe that pastors need to help their congregations identify shared values and get past partisan politics to advance God's Kingdom. BK has scheduled a gathering on Thursday morning, September 22 at Shiloh Church in Oakland. The topic will be  "Building A Moral Economy: The Budget".

Leadership For The Church-in-Mission
November 17-18, 2011

Dear Friends,

We've been working (and waiting!) for years for NT Wright, the world's most prolific and highly regarded evangelical theologian, to come to the Bay Area.  We are pleased to announce that we are partnering with Newbigin House of Studies and CityChurch in San Francisco to feature Prof. Wright in a first-of-its-kind conference.  Pastors and other ministry leaders are invited to take advantage of this unique opportunity to explore the biblical basis for the mission of the church --- and all the implications for us as we lead our own ministries.

Leadership for the Church-in-Mission

November 17-18, 2011

Held at Calvary Presbyterian Church, San Francisco

Co-sponsored by The Leadership Connection

The Newbigin House of Studies Inaugural Conference

The great missionary, pastor and theologian Lesslie Newbigin taught that "the church is mission." It "exists by mission as a flame exists by burning."  The contemporary church is in desperate need of leaders who are capable of planting new churches or revitalizing churches in decline.  According to Newbigin, spiritual renewal will only happen when "local congregations renounce an introverted concern for their own life, and recognize that they exist for the sake of those who are not members, as sign, instrument and foretaste of God's redeeming grace for the whole life of society."  But how do we redevelop a vision for mission within our churches?  How we do train and mentor a new generation of missional leaders?

To address these questions, Newbigin House of Studies will bring together a distinguished group of theologians, missiologists, church planters and pastors for two days in San Francisco.  Our keynote speaker is Professor N.T. Wright, who will deliver two lectures on the first day, addressing the leadership challenges and opportunities for the church's contemporary mission.  After each lecture, he will interact with a panel of Christian leaders.  On the second day, the conference will focus on the stories of leaders who have successfully planted or led churches in creating a missional culture --- allowing time for guided group conversation around key issues.

KEYNOTE SPEAKER

N. T. Wright is Professor of New Testament and Early Christianity at University of St. Andrews Scotland and is one of the world's leading Bible scholars. He has been featured on ABC News, Dateline NBC, and The Colbert Report.  He has taught New Testament studies at Cambridge, McGill, and Oxford universities, and has served as a Bishop in the Church in England.  He is the author of over fifty books, included the newly released Simply Jesus and The Kingdom New Testament: A Contemporary Translation.
